2007 Awards Night - Mickey Paea tops the Jets Poll for 2007

Blockbusting forward Mickey Paea has claimed the major prizes at the Newtown Jets annual presentation night held at the Jets Sports Club on
Monday evening (19th November).

Special guests included

• the Federal Member for Grayndler, Anthony Albanese MP
• the Mayor of Marrickville, Councillor Dimitrios Thanos
• Sydney Roosters CEO, Brian Canavan
• plus a strong representation from Newtown's group of sponsoring
  organisations

Mickey Paea won the Newtown Jets Best and Fairest Award as well as the prestigious Fred Daly Memorial Shield, awarded to the player judged to have made the most positive contribution to the club during the year. It caps off a great year for the popular Paea who played in the Sydney Roosters NRL team on several occasions in 2007 as well as being a standout player with the Tongan national Rugby League team in their recent matches. Special recognition was also made to the club's very capable photographers Gary Sutherland and Mike Biboudis; Susan Harkus for her high quality website design and maintenance services and to Dr. Bassam Moses for professional medical services to the club.

The Newtown club also acknowledged all the players who had turned out with the Jets in the 2007 season who had won various representative honours.

Our successful partnership continues

Sydney Roosters CEO Brian Canavan, Newtown Jets President Barry Vining and senior Jets Director Terry Rowney all praised the stability and rationale of the Rugby League partnership between the two clubs, now entering its third year.

Both clubs will celebrate their centenary years in 2008 and are totally focused on successful on-field performances in the new season.

Although the Jets didn't make the semi-finals in 2007, the club retained the three trophies contested on an annual basis with the Balmain, North Sydney and Western Suburbs Rugby League clubs.
