The Jets family acknowledges the team's effort

It isn't often that a team can take pride in its achievement despite the bitterness of defeat but these messages sent to the Newtown Club's Director and Media Officer, Glen Dwyer, show that the Grand Final efforts of the 2008 Newtown team earned respect and admiration.

"What a brave effort. They should have been joint premiers at the end.
And what about Rudder - he played himself to a standstill!!!
I don't think bad luck is the right expression, more well done. In fact ....tremendous effort."

From Steve Norrish, Judge of the NSW Supreme Court and former Newtown President's Cup representative, 1969.

"I watched Setanta's live coverage of the NRL Grand Final yesterday (at 7am), and heard both Peter Sterling And Ray Warren refer to the NSW Cup & Toyota Cup Grand Finals both having gone to golden point, but infuriatingly, neither of them mentioned who had ultimately won.

It wasn't until later on Sunday night that I found the result on the internet. Obviously it wasn't the one you would have hoped for, but I feel it should not detract from a tremendous centenary season.

Once again, commiserations to all at the club for yesterday's result, but congratulations on the season as a whole. Here's hoping you can go one better next year."

From Brian McKnight, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

"An epic struggle - the boys should be proud of their efforts - sure they had some chances to win - but if not for their courage they would've been beaten a number of times during the normal course of play - their resilience in defence was inspiring - mind you, I would expect nothing less of the mighty Jets - please pass on my congratulations to all concerned for yet another great season for Newtown - well done."

From Phil Gould, former Newtown player and First Grade Rugby League coach, who played for Newtown in the famous 1981 Grand Final against Parramatta.

"Congratulations to all at the Jets, Bumper!!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Jets/Wenty Grand Final on TV. Yes, the final score could've been better, but it was simply great to see the Bluebags running around on Grand Final day. And I mean REALLY great.

A fantastic effort by ALL at the club. Don't let anybody forget that."

From Ron E. Sparks, at WSFM.

What a great season the Jets had.

That game was a lot of football to play and the guys really gutsed it out. I listened to the entire game via the internet on 2GB and it was a mighty struggle. Kept trying to will from 10,000 miles away one of those drop goals to get over the black dot but telepathy apparently doesn't go that far!

Still they did us all proud. My best wishes to the coach and players.

From Geoff Mason, Chief of Staff/Deputy Director, Community Mental Health Services, Colombia, South Carolina, USA.
