The Newtown RLFC regrets to advise the recent passing of Alf Richards, a Life Member of the Newtown club, the NSW Rugby League and the Australian Rugby League.
Alf was formerly a boilermaker with the NSW Railways, and worked as a trainer and "zambuk" with the Bluebags from 1944 to 1973. He later moved on to work as a trainer with the Eastern Suburbs and Cronulla-Sutherland clubs, as well as working with the NSWRL referees.
Alf was an official trainer with the NSW and Australian representative teams for many years and went on four Kangaroos tours as an invaluable member of the training staff.
During the course of his extensive career, Alf was responsible for improving the standards of medical treatment and injury rehabilitation in Rugby League.
The Newtown RLFC extends sincere condolences to his wife Enid and to all his extended family members.
Passing of a South Sydney's Clem Kennedy
The Newtown RLFC also notes the recent passing of the former South Sydney stalwart Clem Kennedy, who represented Australia in 1946 and played one season with Newtown in 1948.
Clem might have worn the Green and Gold of the Australian Rugby League team with pride but even more gloriously, he wore the Jungle Green of the AIF when he fought on the infamous Kokoda Track in 1942 against the invading Japanese forces.
The club extends sincere condolences to all the members of the Kennedy family.
