Farewell to the great Frank Hyde.
back
In late September, the Newtown RLFC mourned the passing of the legendary Frank Hyde at the age of 91.
Frank began his Rugby League career with Newtown and played with the club from 1934 to 1937 before moving on to Balmain, Waratah-Mayfield and North Sydney.
He played representative football with Sydney, NSW Country and NSW but was denied Australian representation by the onset of World War II.
Frank is best remembered throughout Australia for his remarkable career as a radio broadcaster from 1953 onwards, where he dominated the Rugby League broadcasting ratings for more than thirty years.
He was always a wonderful friend to the Newtown club and he made some memorable visits to Henson Park in recent years.
Farewell to a truly great Australian.
Members of the Newtown Club attended Frank Hyde's funeral, Friday, 28 September, and the Club also sent a floral tribute, with blue and white ribbons and the message
To the Hyde Family
In fond memory of one of our finest.
The Newtown Rugby League Football Club.
